Description

Camel Safaris Camp is a desert camp perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of city life. Set in the impressive tassilis landscape, close to the Nomad village of Hassi labiad, this Saharan camp provides intimacy for private groups or for indevedual looking for something different in Morocco.
Guests stay in traditional Nomad tents, renovated and transformed into comfortable double rooms. After a walking tour or an excursion on camel back with an overnight , the desert camp provides all the comforts including a traditional Moroccan tajine dinners under the stars – rare luxuries in the middle of the Moroccan desert.

As we want to offer an authentic and ecofriendly experience, we invest in the restoration of traditional Nomad tents . Built of traditional goat hair tents, held up by a central pillar and tension wires the camp is authentic in structure with all the modern comforts. The team consists of your language speaking guide and a cook both of whom are Berbers of the the desert, the camp is under permanent surveillance by the nomade and all other members are locals and are a fount of information, who welcome our guests in true Berber style. Each day is dedicated to a new discovery: on camel back or on foot, in all terrain vehicles, learning nomadic daily customs , the camp itself offers a cultural centre dedicated to the nomade culture, neighbouring sites, infinite dunes…

As the camp is implemented in the Sahara desert, we have to pay attention to efficient water consumption. We set up dry toilets and we instruct our staff and guests on low water use, as water has to be delivered from a close water source. Therefore, our shower system is traditional but ecofriendly. Hot water is limited on 2 litres per day and person and we ask our guests to re-use sheets and towels during their stay
This is undoubtedly one of our favourite experiences, bar none.  To us the simplicity of the equipment – mattresses on the ground instead of proper beds, washstands instead of full showers - far from detracts from the comfort or quality of the experience, but serves to underline how far removed this is from every day life.  Make no mistake, to disappear for a few days into the wild supported by this camp is an immensely privileged thing to do. Sound a bit too basic?  Take a look at the Desert Luxury Camp.

Deep Desert Camp - walk out of the world as you know it and camel trek to our deep desert camp. There are no faclities as water cannot be pumped this deep in the dunes however, for the adventurous-at-heart, nothing matches the experience of travelling, as desert dwellers have travelled for generations, across the soft curves of sandy dunes to sleep under the stars in a nomad-tented camp alongside the nomad families who live here to look after the oasis camp.

The Mobile Camel safari camp is stylish and beautiful, but it's also simple as befits so rarefied an environment and is designed with function in mind.  The sorts of journeys we put together can involve moves of considerable distances in a day, so the equipment needs to be portable - whether by mule or camel if you’re trekking, or, if travelling long distances, in the camp’s back up vehicle. As long as you’re not expecting the lavish (some would say over the top) material luxury to be found in some tented camps in East Africa, then this camp, set up just for you, is the real deal and highly rewarding.  At the end of each day as you drive - or better still walk - in to camp, you’ll find that the 3 or 4 man Berber crew have every thing in hand. Tents set up, lanterns and fire lit, water for washing hot and food ready to go.
Food is strictly Moroccan and better for it.  The theme tends to be one centred on the famous harira soup followed by a Tagine and backed up with the traditional Moroccan flat bread and fruit from the coast, but the variations on that theme are extensive.  In our experience it rarely disappoints.  There’s a stunning patterned Caidale tent for dining, although we often prefer to eat under the stars provided that it’s warm enough.  Beds are comfortable mattresses laid on the ground, with sleeping bags (a great deal warmer than sheets or duvets in those chill desert nights).  There’s a bathroom tent with chemical loo and hot water is provided in a wash stand and bucket.
This is undoubtedly one of our favourite experiences, bar none.  To us the simplicity of the equipment – mattresses on the ground instead of proper beds, washstands instead of full showers - far from detracts from the comfort or quality of the experience, but serves to underline how far removed this is from every day life.  Make no mistake, to disappear for a few days into the wild supported by this camp is an immensely privileged thing to do.

close to the hotel, within walking distance of your room, a private nomad tent so that you can sleep under the stars with the convenience of the hotel facilities.

Exploring the deserts of southern Morocco with a private tented camp has to be one of the most rewarding wilderness experiences available.  For us, this is the real reason to come to Morocco; to experience the raw untouched wilderness of the deserts and to immerse your self for at least a few days in this extraordinary environment.  We use two superb tented camps for this - the Desert Light Mobile or the altogether more upscale Luxury Desert Camp. Both of these camps are deeply spoiling experiences.
Despite, or perhaps because of, the almost total lack of life, the idea of the desert holds an endlessly romantic appeal. The reality doesn’t disappoint either.  Nomade tents at the foot of a caramel 500 ft high dune.  A walk along a gently climbing ridge that rolls up from the flat plain like a sleeping dinosaur. Up and up over square black rocks wedged into the orange sand.  Along paths with steep drops on either side, below your feet a steep slope of sand until the flat plain that stretches out as far as the eye can see.
The walk ends on top of the highest dune, its perfect ridge like whipped cream, folding down to a terrace from where you watch the sun go down – the temperature dropping perceptibly as it does so.  As the sun dips below the horizon you drop off the crest of the dune and down the seemingly vertical face towards camp.  Long loping strides in the soft sand.  Children make it to the bottom of the dune in less than a couple of minutes - adults take a little longer.  For both, a truly magical way to arrive in camp.
There simply isn’t a better way to access and experience the remote wilderness areas of Morocco’s extensive southern deserts.  While you travel by day with your private guide and vehicle, the camps are carried by a dedicated team who move ahead of you with a 4x4 setting up camp in time for your arrival and moving with you as you explore deeper into the wild.  Nights are spent in splendid isolation under a firmament bright with star

Without doubt the finest desert camp in the Moroccan Sahara, it offers pure luxury at every level but retains the spirit of the culture of the Sahara Desert, given it is run exclusively by a Berber team who all originate from the area. The team are true professionals, and lots of fun, and know how to make everything run as seamlessly as possible in the desert. Service is relaxed and friendly.
The desert camp is owned by a British former hotelier and his attention to detail is superb; each spacious guest tent is replete with private, en-suite bathroom facilities with toiletries, and fully-furnished sumptuous bedrooms completed with wall-to-wall rugs, leather armchairs, mirrors, lamps, and the finest bed linens. There is even a well-stocked bar/salon at the camp. Electricity is provided in the guest tents in the evenings via solar power.
This is a unique opportunity to enjoy a beautiful wilderness in the most deluxe of accommodations. Guests can even enjoy cooking in the desert with the chef and then dine around the campfire while being entertained by local musicians. Or take an aperitif at the top of a tall sand dune to watch the sun set. Further activities, amongst the dunes, include sandboarding, walking, camel riding and 4×4. You will enjoy some of the best Moroccan food while staying here.
The minimum stay at the desert camp is 2 nights and all meals, drinks (including alcohol) and activities are included in the price of your stay. Transfers from/to Marrakech or Ouarzazate are additional cost.
