High Atlas

Description

The Atlas Mountains reach their highest and most impressive points in Morocco. Composed of three major ranges:the High Atlasthe Middle Atlas, the Anti Atlas as well as the RIF Mountains, lie diagonally from east-northeast to west-southwest forming a geographical borderland. Immediately to the south lies the Sahara, the greatest desert in the world. It is only the Atlas Mountains that prevent northern Morocco from succumbing to its vast sands. The Atlas Mountains are a host to the diverse array of sports activities to be taken advantage of. Trekking, hiking, camping, ski and climbing are just a few of the ways in which the wilderness of Morocco’s mountains bring you closer to contact with the indigenous population know as Berbers. Then and only then can your really experience and learn about the traditions of these hermetic nomads. For many people, this is the highlight of their tour; our aim is to bring you to the beauty of Morocco landscapes. The Atlas Mountains are an uncut, diamond-in-the-rough beauty.

Toubkal peak (4167m)

The Toubkal Peak (4167 m.)

located in the Western High Atlas and one of the greatest mountain range of North Africa, is perhaps the most beautiful and intriguing part of Morocco. It has retained its remoteness, which until recent decades was virtually complete. Villages here have changed very little over the centuries. Outsiders to the mountains are instantly surprised when they encounter the friendliness and openness of the villagers, as the inhabitants go about their daily business. Hiking in the High Atlas is one of the best possible experiences in Morocco – feasible exploration of stunning natural beauty, and a rigidly individual world regardless of the levels of fitness to this area are accessible to all. There are wide ranges of trekking possibilities, from a short ramble through the villages that surround the Kasbah, to more demanding multi-day treks. Mule support can be arranged for bags and hikers, which opens up more opportunities. The mule trails around the valleys are well maintained and kept in excellent condition. Magoune peak (4,068 m)

The M'Goun Peak (4,071)

in the heart of the High Central Atlas, is the second highest Peak in North Africa and the most demanding mountain range in Morocco. As you uncover its many unsuspecting treasures - plentiful rivers and gorges as well as lakes decorate the wild canyons. You will come across the indigenous tribes who inhabitant these valleys. The summit of M’Goun offers impressive panoramic views of the surrounding country and even the Sahara Desert. The ascent is spectacular and, in the summer, hiking is particularly popular. the Ayachi Peak(3,737 m )

THE El Ayachi Peak (3,737 m.)

is the highest peak in the Eastern High Atlas range and marks the last frontier before crossing into the heart of old Morocco. Here, amid the immeasurable silence of the pre-Sahara, is an all-forgotten world of fortified villages (Ksour) and Berber castles (Kasbahs). High peaks force the clouds to disperse large amounts of rainfall; therefore, the High Atlas has many fertile valleys surrounded by rivers and waterfalls. It is an awesome land of breathtaking mountains through which rivers have driven two thin wedges of fertility, as enticing as any mirage.
